The Maidenhair fern is a beautiful addition to any shaded garden. The graceful green foliage grows best in moist well-drained areas. Its genus name Adiantum translates to “non-wetting” and is referring to the fronds’ ability to shed rainwater without becoming wet whatsoever. The fronds of the fern are shaped somewhat like a hand and they are very different in appearance that any other fern on Earth. They are deciduous and very easy to grow. They show growth in Summer and look beautiful until Fall when the leaves die back for the season and the plant goes dormant for the Winter months. They will bloom year after year without having to replant. Grows best in partial shade in zones 3-8.
