Actea pachypoda, White Baneberry

White Baneberry, popularly known as Doll’s eye is an herbaceous perennial plant in the family of Ranunculaceae. It is native to Eastern-North America and grows to be roughly thirty inches tall. White Baneberry has attractive foliage and conspicuous white berries that mostly blossom during the late summer or early fall.

The white berries resemble the famous China dolls, hence the name Doll’s eyes. The other common name is the white Baneberry which originates from the appearance of the berries which bring a spectacular view in the woodlands when they blossom.

The doll eyes plant supports relatively thick stem that branches near the top. The plant naturally occurs in the woodland and the shady gardens in the North-facing wooded slopes.

The Doll eyes plant produce beautiful white flowers during the spring and these flowers bloom in a dense raceme which makes them appear stunningly beautiful.

The berries of this plant ripen over summer with a size, shape and a black stigma scar that make them appear like Doll’s eyes. The ripe berry persists on the plant until frost. The plant prefers clay-course loamy soils. Its cultivation requires the part to full shade and regular watering to reproduce its native habitat.

White baneberry is a beautiful plant that is a part of the buttercup family. Many people fall in love with this plant because it is simply stunning. A benefit of this plant is that its berries are very long lasting. This plant can get up to 2 feet tall and about 3ft wide. It features large green leaves that are arranged around the stem, and above the leaves small beautiful little white flowers form. Their stalk is red and white berries produce on the plant from summer to autumn. Another benefit of this unique plant is that it has a rose scent that smells incredible.

    These arrived in good condition and appear ready to grow. Since our weather is unusually unpredctable this year, I've chosen to pot them in gallon pots in my basement to give them the most stable temperatures possible while they settle in.
