Product Description

Yellow Trillium

Yellow trillium (Trillium luteum), like all members of its species, belong to the lily family and grow from an underground rhizome. It blooms from mid to late spring, generally from April to May in parts of eastern Canada and the southeastern United States. The plant can grow to about fourteen inches tall and produces twisted yellow blooms that have a faint lemon scent. The plant has three leaves that are mottled in appearance and range in color from light green to dark green with hints of silver. Best suited to woodlands or other heavily shaded areas, these flowering plants go dormant during the summer months, so could be planted alongside perennials that bloom in mid to late summer without any issues. Over time the leaves and blooms can grow larger. Rarely they can also develop 2 stems which is double the beauty. These bulbs are amazing.

The late summer months, when the plants are dormant, is the best time to propagate by carefully dividing them.

Yellow trillium are self-seeders (with the help of ants to carry their seeds), much like other varieties in the species.

These plants are not overly vulnerable to disease or pests, but care should be taken to keep slugs and snails away, and periodically inspect for rust colored fungal spots. They prefer moist, fertile, well-drained soil similar to their native forest floor habitat. This effect can be achieved by mulching once a year with the rich organic matter.

This flower usually has three green leaves spotted with silver. It has a pretty yellow bloom in the center. It is also deer resistant, and self-multiplies. This perennial falls within the sessile group and typically flowers in mid Spring.

I hope they were viable. Kindof dead looking, seemed to me. I planted them and watered them and hope for the best

Too early to tell for sure, but the bulbs were uniform & plump.

    Wonderful yellow trillium

Apr 19, 2021 Reviewer: Thomas Dorn

All three rhizomes put up leaves within a short time after planting and one had a small flower. Fabulous! I expected some growth but not flowering the first season.
